Australian experts argue a better approach to menopause is needed

A series of papers in The Lancet suggest menopause is being over-medicalised -- and solving it by replacing hormones isn't based on evidence.
Co-author Lydia Brown says they reviewed 12 prospective studies around menopause and mental health -- finding no strong evidence to say the risk of depressive symptoms increased during menopause.
She says it's better to understand that some women with risk factors may be at risk of depressive symptoms over that transition -- rather than all women.
