A 29-year-old man is due in court today - over a large brawl in Gisborne at the weekend which left two dead and three in hospital

The fight at a 21st party in Elgin on Saturday involved about 100 people.

Police say a man will appear in the Gisborne District Court, on charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A nearby resident says they went outside to look after hearing screaming about 11.30pm.

Police forensic teams are still at the scene, with cordons still up.
