The Civil Aviation Authority has convicted and fined a microlight pilot for operating an aircraft in a careless manner

The Civil Aviation Authority has convicted and fined a microlight pilot for operating an aircraft in a careless manner

The man flew from his home airstrip to the Rangiora aerodrome last July -- at about 10-percent of required visibility.

He refuelled with a passenger onboard, which is also prohibited.

He's been fined six-and-a-half thousand dollars.

Deputy Chief Executive, Dean Winter says the conviction highlights the importance of operating safely, and adhering to Civil Aviation Act rules.
