Christchurch City Council has committed to pay equity, despite the government's law change

Christchurch City Council has committed to pay equity, despite the government's law change

Almost 300 of the city's library workers will be getting a pay rise to reflect the 'true value' of their work, despite the cancellation of their pay equity claim.

It was one of 33 dissolved in May when the Government changed pay equity rules.

Council's head of citizens and community, Andrew Rutledge, says while recent policy changes may have shifted national priorities, the local commitment to fairness remains unchanged.

He says the increase has been accounted for within the current budget, meaning it will not require a rates increase.
