The winter chill continues - with snow triggering road warnings across the alpine passes

In the North Island - State Highway 1 from Rangipo to Waiouru - the Desert Road is closed due to snow.

In the South - State Highway 8 between Fairlie and Lake Pukaki also remains closed after a heavy dumping of snow.

Meanwhile another warning kicks in tonight for State Highway 94's Milford Road in the South Island, which connects Gore to Milford Sound.

NZTA says it has crews ready to respond to the icy conditions by clearing snow and laying grit on roads if required.
