Lots of businesses are continuing to fold, despite some positive trends

Lots of businesses are continuing to fold, despite some positive trends

Centrix's most recent data reveals company liquidations are up 26 percent on last year, however the rate of increase has eased in recent months.

It notes credit demand is strengthening, with consumer credit demand up 5.6 percent annually, led by strong growth in personal loan applications.

Centrix spokesperson Monika Lacey says liquidations will possibly remain high for some time.

She says it's important to know that these liquidations are a lag indicator, with many of these businesses failing two to three years ago.
