Thomas Brugman died in mid-July at Dargaville Hospital. A social worker contacted local funeral home Hart Funerals, asking for him to be transferred there until next-of-kin could be found to give instructions on what should happen. Hart Funerals general manager Gary Taylor was told two days later that no next-of-kin could be found. Efforts to locate family in the Netherlands were also unsuccessful. â??Public Trust refused to pick up the case because it said it did not have a mandate to do so.
