Kiwirail is lifting some of its freight and Interislander user charges

Kiwirail is lifting some of its freight and Interislander user charges

    10 July 2025

From today, Kiwirail is introducing a 20 dollar fee for truck drivers if staff help them get their truck on or off the Interislander ferry.

It's also introducing a 45 dollar fee for trucks carrying dangerous goods.

Kiwirail says the fees are about the need for cost-recovery for the business and to maintain roads around the ports.

Transporting New Zealand Chief Executive Dom Kalasih says the group is supportive of fee increases - if they increase productivity.

He says at the moment prices seem to be going up without any benefits.
