A warning no single plan, power station or source, can guarantee New Zealand's energy security

A warning no single plan, power station or source, can guarantee New Zealand's energy security

    30 September 2025
The Commerce Commission is proposing allowing our major power companies to share the cost of the stockpile at Huntly Power Station.

It says the deal will help over the short term, by improving security of supply, and lowering wholesale prices.

Major Electricity Users' Group Chief Executive, Karen Boyes, says we need a bigger vision.

She says from a resilience perspective, as a country, it lacks caution, to put all your eggs in one basket, particularly relying on one site.

The Government's due to unveil an energy sector plan tomorrow.
