Unpaid tax bills may be catching up with many struggling businesses

Unpaid tax bills may be catching up with many struggling businesses

    10 November 2025
Insolvency practitioners are seeing far more small retail, hospitality, construction, transport and manufacturing operators going under now, than before the pandemic.

BWA Insolvency Founder Bryan Williams says most of those he's dealing with have no remaining assets, and have been in "survival mode" for a long time.

He says Inland Revenue is now going after them for unpaid tax.

Williams says it's a healthy destruction, where businesses that don't have resources and can't make a profit, are not surviving.
