The South Island's regional growth has knocked the North Island off top spot

The South Island's regional growth has knocked the North Island off top spot

    28 September 2021
The West Coast has taken the lead in the latest ASB Regional Economic Scorecard - Canterbury is in second, Bay of Plenty in third and Auckland in fourth.

The report compares the three months to July 2021, with the same quarter last year.

Chief economist Nick Tuffley expects to see a similar dynamic play out again, following the change in alert levels.

He says it will continue next quarter as the South has been less affected by the latest lockdown than Auckland.
