Otago University students are being asked to play their part in reducing coronavirus risks

Dunedin's infamous Hyde Street party has been cancelled - amidst coronavirus concerns.

But the city also has an outbreak of mumps, with eight-cases confirmed.

Otago University is requesting students reconsider plans to congregate in large groups - and be aware of their role in minimising the risk of covid-19 amongst all ages.

It says students should be careful not to overload the health system with drinking-related cases, on the likes of St Patrick's day today.
