Businesses are backing a move to combat New Zealand's soaring retail crime problem

A national police retail investigation support unit which will tackle anything from ram-raids to robberies, comes into force this month.
An Otago University study five years ago, found retail theft cost more than one billion dollars' income, and retailers spend half a billion annually on security.
Heart of the City chief executive Viv Beck says they've been lobbying for something like this for a while.
She says retailers have got enough on their plate already, without the added pressure of crime.
Auckland's Gucci and Louis Vuitton stores - in the CBD's Queen Street - were ram raided last night.
