An Auckland councillor says young ram raiders need good role models, to help change their behaviour

There's been a spate of ram raids in Bay of Plenty and Auckland recently...a couple of days ago 16 young people in stolen cars robbed Ormiston Town Centre.

Councillor Alf Filipaina worked as a police officer in South Auckland for decades.

He says there were ram raids when he was in the force -- but what's changed is the age of the offenders.

Filipaina says there's only going to be a responsibility when people are only 11 and doing that, and it has to start at the home.
