    Areas of morning cloud then fine.

    Remaining North Island mountain areas
    Fine apart from morning cloud or fog in the valleys.

    Kaikoura ranges
    Fine.

    Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks, and the Southern Alps from Arthur's Pass northwards
    Partly cloudy, with patchy rain or drizzle.

    The Southern Alps south of Arthur's Pass and Fiordland
    Cloudy with occasional rain, more frequent and possibly heavy in Fiordland this afternoon and elsewhere this evening.

    WINDS
    Northerlies, gale about Mt Aspiring and southwards.

    FREEZING LEVEL
    2000 metres.
