On Wednesday, the ridge crosses the North Island followed by a showery westerly flow for the country, with embedded fronts affecting the South Island. A showery southwesterly flow affects New Zealand on Thursday, followed by a building ridge. On Friday and Saturday, the ridge lies over the North Island, while an active front moves northeast over the South Island, bringing strong northwesterlies and heavy rain. Forecast for Inshore waters from Matakana Island to Mayor Island to Motiti Island and then east to Torere River mouth * Strong wind advisory in force * Tuesday: Northwest 20 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots in the morning. Changing to westerly 20 knots gusting 30 knots in the afternoon. Turning southwest 15 knots in the evening. Sea becoming rough for a time in the morning and afternoon. Poor visibility in rain, clearing in the evening. Northerly swell half a metre rising to 1 metre. Wednesday: Southwest 15 knots, turning westerly 15 knots in the afternoon. Fine.
