On Monday the deep low near the Chatham Islands moves away to the east, and the strong cold southerly flow over New Zealand eases as a ridge of high pressure spreads slowly onto the country. On Tuesday northerlies strengthen ahead of a front in the Tasman Sea. The front crosses the country on Wednesday as another low in the Tasman Sea approaches. Forecast issued at 0325hrs Saturday 07-Jun-2025 Valid to 7 am Saturday for Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth. Saturday: Southerly 20 knots. Turning southwest 15 knots in the afternoon, then rising to 20 knots in the evening. Moderate sea at times. Poor visibility in occasional rain. Northeast swell half a metre or less. Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Southwest 20 knots. Low cloud and drizzle developing. Monday: Southwest 15 knots. Occasional rain, clearing.
