Recreational Marine: Coromandel Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 0336hrs Wednesday 31-Dec-2025 by MetService Situation: A weakening low pressure system to the west of New Zealand approaches the South Island from the north today. Tomorrow, a large trough of low pressure moves slowly east across the country. The large trough moves east away from New Zealand on Friday. Then on Saturday, a ridge builds over the South Island, while a low crosses the upper North Island. The South Island ridge is expected to expand and cover most of the country by the end of Sunday. Forecast for Inshore waters from Great Mercury Island to Mayor Island to Matakana Island Nil warnings Wednesday: Northerly 20 knots gusting 30 knots easing to 15 knots late this evening. Moderate sea easing late evening. Cloudy periods. Poor visibility in showers, mainly in the morning. Northeast swell 2 metres easing to 1.5 metres. Thursday: Northerly 20 knots, easing to northwest 15 knots in the morning. A few showers developing. Northeast swell 1 metre. Friday: Westerly 10 knots. Partly cloudy. Northeast swell 1 metre.
