Recreational Marine: Kapiti Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1105hrs Wednesday 31-Dec-2025 by MetService Situation: A low pressure system and its associated front approach the South Island from the northwest tonight, then move east tomorrow, leaving a broad trough over the country. The large trough over the country on Friday moves slowly eastwards. A ridge builds over the South Island during Saturday as a low in the trough crosses the northern North Island. On Sunday, the ridge gradually expands to cover most of New Zealand. Forecast for Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island * Strong wind advisory in force * Wednesday: Variable 5 knots. Northeast 10 knots developing in the afternoon, then rising to 15 knots in the evening. Sea slight. Cloudy with poor visibility in showers. Possible squally thunderstorms from afternoon. Northwest swell 1 metre developing. Thursday: Northeast 15 knots. Rising to northwest 25 knots gusting 35 knots in the morning, easing to 15 knots in the evening. Sea becoming rough in the morning, easing in the evening. Partly cloudy. Morning drizzle. Northwest swell rising to 2 metres. Friday: Northwest 15 knots, turning southwest 10 knots in the afternoon.
