Recreational Marine: Kapiti Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 0430hrs Wednesday 04-Feb-2026 by MetService Situation: A ridge of high pressure expands from the South Island to cover the country today as a low about the North Island track east. Tomorrow, the ridge becomes slow moving, meanwhile, a front makes it onto Fiordland by the end of the day. The ridge of high pressure persists over much of the country through the weekend, but westerly flow with embedded fronts persist over the lower South Island until Sunday. On Sunday, the ridge expands to cover the country. Forecast for Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island Nil warnings Wednesday: Southerly 20 knots but 15 knots north of Kapiti Island, easing to 15 knots but 10 knots in the north this afternoon, before easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. Moderate sea in the south easing. Cloudy. Clearing to fine this afternoon. Westerly swell 2.5 metres easing to 1 metre. Thursday: Variable 5 knots, becoming northerly 10 knots in the afternoon. Partly cloudy. Westerly swell 1 metre dying out. Friday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to 20 knots early. Partly cloudy. Westerly swell 1 metre developing.
