Recreational Marine: Kapiti Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 0326hrs Sunday 01-Feb-2026 by MetService Situation: A ridge affects the North Island today, while a northwest flow strengthens over the South Island ahead of a front approaching from the Tasman Sea. A deep low pressure system develops on the front off the West Coast on Monday as the front moves up the South Island. The low moves east across the central part of the country on Tuesday. A ridge of high pressure moves onto the country from the Tasman Sea early on Wednesday. The ridge persists across the country on Thursday, but another front moves onto the far south later. Forecast for Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island Nil warnings Sunday: Northerly 20 knots, easing to 15 knots in the morning, then to 10 knots in the afternoon. Moderate sea easing in the morning. Fine apart from morning cloud. Northwest swell 1 metre dying out. Monday: Northerly 10 knots, becoming northwest 20 knots in the evening. Rain developing. Tuesday: Northwest 25 knots, turning southerly 20 knots late. Rain turning to showers. Northwest swell 2 metres developing. Wednesday: Southerly 20 knots, easing to southeast 10 knots later. Cloud clearing and becoming fine. Westerly swell 2 metres dying out.
