Recreational Marine: Kapiti Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 2252hrs Sunday 25-Jan-2026 by MetService Situation: A slow-moving low lies to the southeast of the country, with a strong southwest flow over much of New Zealand, easing later today. The southwest flow continues to weaken tomorrow as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west. The high persists over the North Island, while a northwest flow strengthens over the South Island late on Wednesday ahead of a weakening front that moves northeast over the South Island on Thursday. A ridge of high pressure covers the country on Friday. Forecast for Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island Nil warnings Monday: Variable 5 knots. Northerly 10 knots developing about midday, then turning northwest 10 knots in the afternoon. Sea slight. Mostly cloudy. Poor visibility in early morning showers. Westerly swell 2.5 metres easing to 1.5 metres. Tuesday: Northwest 10 knots, turning southerly 10 knots in the morning. Showers clearing. Westerly swell 1 metre dying out.
