    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 1135hrs Thursday 03-Apr-2025 by MetService

    Gale warning for COOK

    Situation:
    A deep low west of Fiordland moves southeast over the next couple of days, while a strong and moist northerly flow affects New Zealand. An associated front moves east across South Island today and the North Island tomorrow, followed by a trough and southwesterlies. A ridge of high pressure moves over New Zealand on Saturday. On Sunday, a low over the Tasman Sea approaches central New Zealand, followed by a broad trough on Monday.

    Forecast issued at 1133hrs Thursday 03-Apr-2025
    Valid to 11 am Thursday for Wellington Harbour and the south coast from Sinclair Head to Baring Head.
    Strong wind advisory.
    Thursday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to 20 knots this afternoon, and to 25 knots gusting 35 knots this evening. Sea becoming rough this evening. Poor visibility in scattered rain. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 2 metres easing to 1 metre. For Castlepoint - Southerly swell 2 metres easing to 1 metre. Easterly swell 1 metre developing.
    Friday: Northerly 25 knots gusting 35 knots, easing to 15 knots in the afternoon. Turning northwest 20 knots in the evening. Rough sea easing in the afternoon. Poor visibility in period of rain, clearing in the afternoon. For the South Coast and Palliser Bay - Nil significant. For Castlepoint - Northeast swell 2 metres.

    Outlook until midnight Monday:
    Saturday: Northwest 20 knots, easing to variable 5 knots in the morning.
    Becoming northerly 15 knots in the evening. Partly cloudy. For the
    South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre developing.
    For Castlepoint - Northeast swell 2 metres easing.
    Sunday: Northerly 15 knots. A few showers, turning to rain. For the South
    Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre. For Castlepoint -
    Easterly swell 1 metre dying out. Southerly swell 2 metres
    developing, then easing.
    Monday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to northwest 20 knots early. Fine. For the
    South Coast and Palliser Bay - Southerly swell 1 metre dying out. For
    Castlepoint - Southeast swell 1 metre dying out.
