    Strong wind advisory for Bream Head to Cape Colville

    Situation:
    Strong northwesterlies continue ahead of a series of cold fronts which move up the South Island today, then onto the North Island on Friday as a ridge of high pressure begins to develop to the south. This ridge persists across the country through to Monday, apart from another front which dissipates quickly over the lower South Island early Saturday.

    Forecast issued at 1116hrs Thursday 25-Apr-2024
    Valid to 11 am Thursday for Manukau and Waitemata Harbours, Hauraki Gulf and Bream Head to Cape Colville.

    For Manukau Harbour:
    Thursday: Variable 5 knots. Northerly 15 knots developing this afternoon. Sea slight but choppy when wind opposes tide. Cloudy with a chance of a shower. Southwest swell 2 metres, easing to 1.5 metres for a time.
    Friday: Northerly 15 knots, changing southwest 20 knots in the morning. Sea becoming moderate in the morning but choppy when wind opposes tide. Poor visibility in showers, easing in the afternoon. Possible morning and afternoon thunderstorms. Southwest swell 1.5 metres, rising to 3 metres.
    Saturday: Southwest 20 knots, easing to southerly 10 knots in the morning, and then to variable 5 knots in the evening. Partly cloudy. Southwest swell 3 metres, rising to 3.5 metres for a time.
    Sunday: Variable 5 knots, becoming easterly 10 knots late. Cloud clearing. Southwest swell 3 metres, easing to 2 metres.
    Monday: Easterly 10 knots. Fine. Southwest swell 2 metres, easing to 1.5 metres.

    For Waitemata Harbour:
    Thursday: Variable 5 knots. Northerly 10 knots developing early afternoon, rising to 15 knots east of North Head for a time late afternoon and early evening. Sea slight. Cloudy with a chance of a shower.
    Friday: Northerly 10 knots, turning southwest 20 knots in the morning. Southwest easing to 15 knots in the afternoon and then to southerly 10 knots in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the morning, easing in the afternoon. Poor visibility in showers, easing in the afternoon. Possible morning and afternoon thunderstorms.
    Saturday: Southerly 10 knots. Fine.
    Sunday: Southerly 10 knots, turning easterly 10 knots early. Fine.
    Monday: Easterly 15 knots. Fine.

    For Hauraki Gulf:
    Thursday: Variable 5 knots. Northerly 15 knots developing this afternoon. Sea slight. Cloudy with a chance of a shower.
    Friday: Northerly 15 knots, changing southwest 20 knots in the afternoon. Sea becoming moderate in the afternoon. Poor visibility in showers, easing in the afternoon. Possible morning and afternoon thunderstorms. Northerly swell half a metre developing.
    Saturday: Southwest 20 knots, easing to southerly 15 knots in the morning. Fine. Northerly swell half a metre, rising to 1 metre for a time.
    Sunday: Easterly 10 knots. Fine. Northerly swell half a metre.
    Monday: Easterly 15 knots. Fine, a few showers developing later. Northeast swell rising to 1 metre.

    For Bream Head to Cape Colville:
    Thursday: Variable 5 knots. Northerly 10 knots developing early afternoon. Rising to northerly 15 knots but 20 knots about Colville Channel for a time late afternoon and early evening. Sea becoming moderate about Colville Channel for a time late afternoon and early evening. Cloudy with fair visibility in a few showers. Northeast swell half a metre.
    Friday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to northwest 15 knots but 20 knots about Colville Channel in the morning. Changing southwest 20 knots but 25 knots gusting 35 knots about Colville Channel in the afternoon. Sea becoming rough about Colville Channel in the afternoon. Poor visibility in showers, easing in the afternoon. Possible morning and afternoon thunderstorms. Northerly swell half a metre, rising to 1 metre.
    Saturday: Southwest 20 knots but 25 knots about Colville Channel, becoming southerly 15 knots everywhere in the morning. Fine. Northeast swell 1 metre.
    Sunday: Southerly 10 knots, turning easterly 10 knots early. Fine. Northeast swell 1 metre.
    Monday: Easterly 15 knots. Fine, a few showers developing later. Northeast swell 1 metre, rising to 1.5 metres.
